Pekanbaru History

The development of this city was not originally separated from the function of the Siak River as a means of transport to distribute produce from the interior and the Minangkabau highlands to the coastal areas of the waterway. Furthermore, since the date of August 9, 1957 by Emergency Law No. 19 of 1957 of the Republic of Indonesia, Pekanbaru entry into the territory of the newly formed province of Riau. Pekanbaru city officially became the capital of Riau province on January 20, 1959 by Kepmendagri number 52/I/44-25 December before the capital is Tanjung Pinang. Now the capital of Riau Islands province.
