Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport (IATA: PKU, ICAO: WiBB) is an airport located in the city of Pekanbaru and formerly named Airport Simpang Tiga, which later changed to Sultan Sharif Kasim II Airport to commemorate the dedication service of Sultan Syarif Kasim II, Sultan for-12 from the Sultanate of Siak.
This airport has a 321.21 ha. In order to welcome PON XVII in 2012, the airport will be expanded to accommodate larger aircraft. The airport is also the home-base for the Air Force 12 Squadron Air.
In 2009, the airport Sultan Syarif Kasim II have begun broadening Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport by the Angkasa Pura II in collaboration with the provincial government of Riau. This expansion iselesaikan in late 2011 and was built in preparation for the National Sports Week (PON), which was held in 2012. Expansion is done because it is considered no longer able to accommodate the number of passengers using the airport by Sultan Syarif Kasim II which annually increasing.
